Dragons new kit gets roar of approval. For
use on Monday October 11th 2004 The
Chirk Dragons Under 8’s football team were togged up today in their
new football kit. The kit has been paid for by Kronospan, the wood
products manufacturers based in Chirk. The Welsh colours of red and
white received a great response from the team players. There
are 20 local children in the under 8’s training group and Janet
Walford who coaches the team every Monday evening said, “The children
love putting on their new kit because it identifies then with the Chirk
club. They practice so hard in all weathers and are such an enthusiastic
group.” Mike
McKenna Kronospan’s Human Resources Director said, “Kronospan
sponsors local causes where it can and we are delighted to be helping
the community by supporting the Chirk Under 8’s this season.” Chirk
Football club consists of 8 boys teams and one girls team and there are
150 children in training this year. The Club is one of the first clubs
in the area to be accredited by the Football Association of Wales.
Stephen Edwards the clubs Secretary said, “We are very grateful to
Kronospan for helping the under 8s in this way. We rely entirely on the
support of volunteers who work so hard for the children.” Last
years Under 8’s team made it to the semi-finals of the North West
Regional teams in Ellesmere Port. This year’s group are hoping for

global company. Established in 1897 the company came to Chirk in 1970.
It covers over 100 acres and has a workforce of 670. The main products
produced on the Chirk site are Chipboard, MDF and Melamine faced
products and laminate flooring. It is one of the major employers in the
area.
